Arborists honored
Charlie
Blankenship
(pictured left
with Paul Revell of VDoF) and
Dan Henry
(right below,
also with Paul), both of Roanoke and retiring board members of
Trees Virginia,
received special service awards at the annual Roanoke workshop for their
efforts on behalf of Virginia arboriculture.
Charlie
was one of the founders of Roanoke’s
Valley Beautiful
and the Roanoke
Urban Forest Council. He has been involved in numerous urban forestry
projects in the
Roanoke
area and was instrumental in helping Paul Revell and the Virginia Department
of Forestry to secure state funds for an urban tree planting grant program
in 2000 & 2001. Charlie is a retired USFS employee.
Dan is
the Urban Forester for the City of Roanoke. He was one of the founders of
the Roanoke Urban Forest Council and has also been instrumental in the
success of the annual
Trees Virginia
Roanoke Tree
workshop. Each will be honored with a tree planted in Roanoke in their name.
