BLACKSBURG, March 23, 2004 – Senior urban forestry major, Rebecca Cunningham, of Waynesboro, Virginia, is this year’s recipient of the Richard S. Foster Urban Forestry scholarship. With the ambition of beginning her own local tree care business, Cunningham is now looking to find a job with a large tree care company so that she can gain valuable experience and training in her field. She says, “I plan to start at the bottom; dragging brush, watching procedures, and learning to climb.” Recipients of this scholarship are chosen based on their interest in contributing to the field of urban forestry. Consideration is given to academic achievements, extra-curricular leadership, and community service. Cunningham was a past recipient of the Louis and Emily M. Spilman Scholarship. She is involved in several activities on the Virginia Tech campus, including intramurals, Navigators Bible Study, and the New Life Campus Fellowship work crew.
